Yuletide & Dangers of Patronizing 'One Chance' Buses

As the Christmas season continues to draw closer, individuals and transport companies have started repairing rickety vehicles to complement with what they have to convey innocent commuters to their respective homes.

While they do this for their selfish interests, little did the passengers know that most of the rickety vehicles end up terminating people's lives for reasons they do not know.

Other transporters desperate to make money are busy performing various sacrifices, incantations and pouring libations to spur the morale of their gods towards boosting the fortunes of their businesses anyhow.

All these atrocious quest to make money were described by Saint Paul of the Bible as vanity upon vanity. A situation where transportation companies mastermind accidents of commuters using their vehicles for far journeys is not only appalling but regrettable.

Businessmen should understand that as it is said that no one gives what he doesn't have, should be viewed as same thing as no one takes what he doesn't own.

In negation to this principle, money conscious business men have ignored the moral and legal way of making money and resort to crook and mundane means of wealth creation, which no doubt has remained cankerous and cancerous to the society.

While accidents involve different transportation companies at intervals, there is a particular transportation company in Nigeria that is innocent of this guilt. This company plies virtually all over the country with moderate speed and high level of professionalism on the part of their drivers.

From Portharcourt, Benin, Lagos, Owerri to Uyo, from Aba, Abuja, Warri, Lokoja, Enugu to Onitsha, Asaba, Abakiliki, this company has taken the lead in the map of transportation business in Nigeria.

Akwa Ibom State Transport Company Ltd (AKTC), is that company that is seriously into the business of revival and redemption of people's will, trust and confidence wherever it is found.

In retrospect, customers of AKTC especially in Owerri, the capital of Imo State are on high spirit and thankful to management of the company in Owerri led by Chief Joe Opara for ensuring that their desires are always met each time they patronize the company.

In a public opinion research conducted by Joint Media Searchlight League (JOMSEL) to ascertain the services of most of the transport companies within and around Owerri to their customers, and made available to the public, result showed that in safety on the wheel, AKTC has 94%, soundness of vehicles, AKTC scored 88%, 76%, 90%, and 79% in customer service, loading bay and free from armed robbery attack among others.

Without sounding sycophantic, AKTC transport is not known or involved in such incessant auto crashes, armed robbery attack or tire burst. This is because those commissioned to manage the company did not only undergo road safety course but are conscious of human lives.

Many a times, news of road mishap involving Siena, Mercedes and Hiase buses belonging to transport companies consume lives of innocent people without the company assisting in their interment, why...because most of them are into money making business rather than life saving ventures.

Just as the yuletide season is at the corner, most transport companies keep deaf ears to customer's complaints, and other avoidable mistakes, which if attended to earlier, the rate of road accident would have been ameliorated and possibly, curtailed.

One thing that encourages commuters travelling with AKTC vehicle is not only the quality of their Siena buses fully Air Conditioned but the way they are approached and attended to by both drivers and management.

No doubt, it is not out of place to assume that most of the transport companies go to the extent of arranging criminals to rob their passengers on the way. Sometimes, I ask myself what benefits do they derive from such illicit act of inflicting injuries on their customers.

Happily, Akwa Ibom State Transport Company Ltd (AKTC) is not known for such behaviour, no wonder the company has won several awards of excellence from both private and corporate bodies.

The situation of things on ground today reminds me of a certain transport company then at Onitsha (name withheld) where one of her staff was said to have arranged armed robbers at their loading bay to accost the vehicle and rob the passengers of their valuables on their way.

Though, they were apprehended days later but the summary is that the passengers were robbed, raped and injured. This is not only uncalled for but an act of ungratefulness and wickedness.

The same thing is happening today, and the only way to avoid it is for passengers to patronize known and registered transportation companies.

They should shun patronizing unmarked vehicles that cannot be identified should anything happens.

Mind you, the concept of this article is never to promote AKTC as a transport company knowing very well that it has created good image for itself already through their quality assurance services to customers, but strictly to advise vehicle users to be careful of "one chance" during this Christmas period.

The rate of ritual killings have risen, hence the need for commuters to be mindful of themselves and ensure that they patronize vehicles at the park rather than on the road.

This, if adhered to is capable of reducing ritual killings, road accident and armed robbery attacks to the barest minimum.

We shall keep exposing them because we have signed for it and ready to defend it anytime, any day.
