Statement of the State Chairman of Imo Concerned Citizens on Mr. Ambrose Nwaogwugwu.

The continued detention and prosecution of the DG of New Media of the PDP Mr. Ambrose Nwaogwugwu is a dent on the achievements of the Shared prosperity government and any gains expected from it will be shortlived.

Checking the pulse of the people around the state shows that it is seen as a case of David vs Goliath and naturally most people will root for David.

This administration is a product of a struggle to reclaim a stolen mandate freely given by the Imo People and we expect outstanding leadership and being thin-skinned to criticism is a weakness that must be avoided.

We therefore advise that the state government takes the honorable path of dismissing all charges against Mr. Ambrose Nwaogwugwu and focus on delivering the expected dividends of democracy to take Imo State to enviable heights.

There is a lot of work to be done and this distraction is sincerely uncalled for.

We know that our amiable Governor, a friend of the People, is a listening leader and express our confidence that he will always take steps to continue to earn the trust of the people.

OUR MISSION IS TO PROMOTE GOOD GOVERNANCE IN IMO STATE

A man with an important message to deliver does not mind the rain.

Hon. Roland Gabriel (ICC State Chairman)

  1. Dear Sir George,

We appreciate your input to our advise that the State Government dismisses all charges against Mr. Ambrose Nwaogwugwu.

You are right that our position is sentimental which we do not deny. In any problem among family members, sentiments must be employed to avoid unnecessary escalation. Here in Imo State, we are one family hence it is only right that our issues are addressed as such.

We are not taking any position as regards the subject matter based on the charges levelled by the state government since we believe that it is unnecessary in the first instance.

All the charges are centred around the opinions expressed by Mr. Ambrose Nwaogwugwu and any draconian laws designed to limit our freedom of speech and expression is anti-people and must not be encouraged.

18th Century English writer Beatrice Evelyn Hall put it this way: “I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.”

Imo State is known as a state that allows plurality of opinion and we must protect that at all cost as a timid populace is a recipe for a moribund society.

The State government is not compelled to accept our advise which they can refuse if they believe they have compelling reasons to continue in the direction that they have taken hence your accusation of blackmail is not well thought out.

While the realities of today may show otherwise, A leader does not need special mediation to do the right thing as the difference between the ruler and the leader is that a ruler imposes his or her authority while a Leader, on the other hand, earns his or her authority as a matter of expertise.

I appreciate your contribution and hope that we can all join hands to position Imo State as a shining light in doing the right thing.

OUR MISSION IS TO PROMOTE GOOD GOVERNANCE IN IMO STATE.
