As a matter of fact, entire Imo State, Nigeria and beyond are agog with happiness, as news filtering in confirms that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which relocated to Abuja for judgement has affirmed the election of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as the rightful Governor of Imo State.
Rt. Hon. Ihedioha whose clear victory at the polls was challenged by the candidates of the Action Alliance, Uche Nwosu; All Progressive Grand Alliance, Senator Ifeanyi Ararume and that of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Hope Uzodimma was affirmed as duly elected by the good people of Imo State.
The Elections Petitions Tribunal which had to relocate to Abuja for the final judgement, dismissed all the prayers by the petitioners, for lacking in merit.
Across the State and beyond, majority of the people are in celebration mood, as they savour what some of them described as "the best news they have heard in a long time." At various markets, motor parks and offices in the State, the scenario is similar to when Nigerian soccer team won the Atlanta 1996 cup after beating Brazil.πͺπΊπΎ
In Nkwere for instance, where the AA Governorship candidate, Uche Nwosu hails from, Mr. Anthony Nwosu has declared free drinks to anyone that comes to Uwa Mgbede Recreation Bar, for the day. The local welder says, he will be ready to spend any amount in celebration of Ihedioha's victory, because Imo State really deserves the best this time and the present Imo Governor is whom a true leader should be. According to him;
"After the celebration of Emeka Ihedioha's victory in March, today is another happy day in my life. Ihedioha is our Governor, and we voted him massively, but a few desperate and greedy people are trying to use some willing tools to deny us of the credible and responsible leadership which only Emeka Ihedioha can give us at this time."
For Mrs Chioma Onwuasoanya from Akokwa - Ideato North, the tribunal's ruling represents victory for the people's power. According to her, "majority of the voters in Ideato nation voted for Ihedioha, because we believe in his capacity to rebuild Imo as the State is in total decay".
Meantime, some critical stakeholders in the Orlu Zone have urged the petitioners to accept the ruling in good fate and join hands with the thinking Governor in rebuilding Imo State and the South East at large. They urged the AA, APC and APGA candidates to forego their right to appeal the judgement, as they may be interpreted as an affront on the people of Imo State.
According to an APC chieftain in from Oru, Chief Felix Uwakwe: "I am a member of the APC, but I am more interested in having a responsible leadership and rebuilding Imo for the betterment of everyone and I believe that Emeka Ihedioha holds the ace in that regard. Most of us voted across Party lines, because there cannot be any comparison between Ihedioha, inexperienced Uche Nwosu and other challengers. As a matter of fact, Ihedioha is a better leader, as he is more courageous and more people oriented. He strongly believes in rule of law and good governance. I therefore join in calling on Uche Nwosu, Senator Hope Uzodimma and Senator Ifeanyi Ararume to rara ume and forget about appealing the judgement, as the judgement is fully in line with the wishes of well meaning Imolites."
Reports from across the country, also indicates that the celebration of Ihedioha's victory is not just within Imo State or the South East, but across the length and breadth of the country, as all men and women of goodwill, join in celebrating the well deserved victory of one of the people oriented Governor in the country.
